SaludosBaakanithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01777227083105313992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23474918.post-71583934569594109202007-07-07T14:23:00.000-04:002007-07-07T14:23:00.000-04:00I love a good page-turner as much as the next guy,...I love a good page-turner as much as the next guy, but at the end of the day that's what they are, page-turners.

Hablando de bestsellers, Sonia, has oido hablar o has leido The Road?

Joan Guerrerohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09190163598920384652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23474918.post-76245932470427116212007-07-07T11:00:00.000-04:002007-07-07T11:00:00.000-04:00I have definitely nested here. You bring out the ...I have definitely nested here. You bring out the coolest topics of the whole blogosphere.

Now the bestsellers. You know what, there used to be a time whe I questioned whether I was the only person feeling cheated along the fact that a bestseller does not necessarily make a good book. But people kept reading, giving away as presents, recommending, debating, and making a big fusses out of best sellers that in the end if you put 20 of them of the same genre in a basket and strip them off the character's names, names of places, and the identity of a given crisis, you will end up having just a bunch of similar sentences, and the formula will be revealed and clear for all. Hence, no literature.

I just happened to finish writing another comment for the Junot vs Sonia case where I mentioned the fact that the literary business is firmly a pure business, and a business part of a bigger scheme. That of the movie production houses and the like. I don't know whether Random House is a subsidiary of WB. Someone can just google it for me.

Take this. Is it true that Stephen King writes all of those novels everytime? The same applies for Danielle Steel, and Grisham, I mean, if you read The Rainmaker, haven't you already read The Firm? Don't they all appear to you as one movie occurring in your head as you go along regardless of the author, and here I include many of Chrichton's books and Carl Sagan's Contact. To me it all looks like the work of a bigger group of editorial hands that know how the result should be for the big dollar shots the moment the books come out on the shelves. Or probably it is just me after all.

But there are good books around that are part of the same industry but still have the feel of a work of love. I mention again Anne Lammott, and Philip McGrath and Philip Roth, just to name authors from North America, where bestsellers come from.

Jesus, the davinci code a good book? Now that is for laughs, at least my own laughs.

Sorry I couldn't stop the English.
